The Ford Trailseeker Series operates using two separate points systems. One applies exclusively to elite men and women in the marathon distance, and the other applies to all remaining riders, across all distances.
Both systems run alongside each other throughout the season, but they serve different purposes and reward different aspects of racing.
1. Elite Series Points System (elite men and women only in the marathon distance)
The Ford Trailseeker Elite Points System is designed to reward consistent and competitive racing across the full season.
There are six Ford Trailseeker events in the series. At each event, elite men and women earn points based purely on their finishing position. Only the top 20 elite riders score points at each race. Riders finishing outside the top 20 will not earn Elite Series Points.
Every race counts. There is no best four from six calculation. The elite athlete (male & female) with the highest total points at the end of the six events is crowned the overall Ford Trailseeker Series winner.
Racing more events creates more opportunities to score, and consistent top 20 finishes across multiple races significantly increase an elite rider’s chances of winning the series. Overall Series prize money is awarded to the top three elite men and women at the end of the season, with R100 000 for first place, R30 000 for second place, and R15 000 for third place.
The top ranked rider in the elite men’s and women’s category wears the official series leader’s jersey (yellow and orange respectively), identifying them as the current elite series leaders.

2. Series Leaderboard Points System (all non elite riders)
All riders outside of the elite men and women compete under the standard Ford Trailseeker Series Leaderboard Points System. This system remains unchanged and applies to all distances and categories.
The Series Leaderboard allows riders to track their progress and compare their performance against others throughout the season. Rankings are based on points accumulated across events and are specific to distance and gender.
The top ranked rider in each distance category: half marathon and half marathon short, will wear the official series leader’s jersey, identifying them as the current leader within their field.
How standard series points are calculated
Series points are calculated using four components that reward participation, competitiveness, and strong racing from start to finish.
- Participation points reward every rider who finishes a race.
- Position points reward higher finishing places.
- Time points reward riders who finish closer to the winning time.
- Bonus points reward riders finishing closer to first place.
Race points are calculated as the total of participation points, position points, time points, and bonus points.
For overall series standings, a rider’s best four results from a possible six events count toward their final series total.
This dual system ensures elite racing is rewarded for consistency and competitiveness across the full season, while all riders continue to be recognised for participation, performance, and progression within the Ford Trailseeker Series.
