First introduced in 2025, the R1 million performance bonus for any elite athlete, male or female, who can achieve the remarkable feat of winning all six marathon-distance races in a single season, is back and forms part of the total R1.2 million prize purse for 2026. The performance bonus sits on top of the per event and series championship prize money, meaning a perfect season could earn an athlete more than any previous year in the series’ history.
The incentive attracted the strongest elite field the series has ever seen and created thrilling rivalries that defined the season. From the hype surrounding Marco Joubert’s chase for perfection to the fierce battles that played out across every venue, the performance bonus became a catalyst for some of the most exciting racing the series has witnessed. It now stands as a defining feature of the Ford Trailseeker Series and a symbol of its commitment to rewarding consistency and excellence.
With equal prize money for men and women, world-class venues, and a reputation for balancing professionalism with community spirit, as well as the biggest prize purse to date, the 2026 season promises to be the most exciting yet.

The Ultimate Challenge
Winning all six Ford Trailseeker events is an accomplishment worth rewarding. It demands not only incredible consistency and the ability to maintain peak form throughout the year, but also a skillset as expansive and varied as the courses themselves. Every venue in the Ford Trailseeker Series is distinct, testing a different side of a rider’s ability. Banhoek is fast and flowing, filled with singletrack that rewards rhythm and precision. Sondela is flatter and quicker, favouring riders with pure speed and strong endurance. Van Gaalen is punchy and relentless, keeping the legs working and the heart rate high, while Wellington is all about the climbs, technical and demanding from start to finish.
Together, these venues create a complete test of mountain biking skill. To win across all six courses takes more than form. It requires consistency, adaptability, dedication, and true all-round ability. It is the mark of a complete rider and a champion of note.
In 2025, Imbuko ChemChamp rider Marco Joubert came close, claiming victory in three of the six events before a puncture at #4 Sondela halted his momentum. His campaign, marked by determination and consistency, captured the spirit of the series and demonstrated just how fine the line is between triumph and heartbreak in top-level racing.
“The Ford Trailseeker Series has evolved into a symbol of South African cycling excellence,” said Race Director Pieter Vorster. “It celebrates not only the elite riders chasing podiums but also the thousands of everyday athletes who take to the trails each season. With routes designed to welcome newcomers, challenge regular riders, and test the best in the sport, the series truly offers something for everyone. With R1.2 million on the line, 2026 will set a new standard for competitive mountain biking.”

Breaking Down the R1.2 Million on the Line
Equal prize money will be awarded to men and women, with podium payouts for each race and the overall series leaders. The total is made up of R15,000 per event victory, a R100,000 series championship prize, and a R1 million performance bonus for any elite athlete who can achieve the remarkable feat of winning all six marathon-distance races in a single season. The prize money on the day is a 40% increase in prize money from 2025.
Riders’ best four results will count toward the series leaderboard, creating a fair and competitive ranking system that rewards consistency as well as standout performances. Points will be allocated to the top finishers in each category, with higher placings earning more points. The riders with the most accumulated points at the end of the season will be crowned the 2026 Ford Trailseeker Series Champions.
